NHSAS Testing

NHSAS Testing
Posted on 10/23/2020

Dear NWES Families,

New Hampshire law (RSA 193-C:6) states the following: “Each year, a statewide assessment shall be administered in all school districts in the state in grades 3 through 8 and one grade in high school.” New Hampshire’s statewide assessment, which is aligned to common academic standards in Mathematics, Science, and English Language Arts, is called the New Hampshire State Assessment System (NHSAS).  This October, students in grades 4 and 5 will participate in this assessment process, testing in the following areas: Reading, Writing, and Math. This state assessment will be given again in May for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.

Like the STAR assessment that we currently use, this assessment is adaptive and administered on the computer.  There is a high degree of rigor with this assessment and will be administered over multiple days and requires students to generate written responses using the keyboard.  Therefore, any opportunities for students to type using a keyboard will be beneficial.

4th and 5th grade students will test during a part of each week for approximately two weeks.  You can help by having your child well rested and on time for school each day.  The dates for Nottingham West Elementary School are:

Grade 4 –October 19th and 21st (ELA Reading/Writing), October 27th (Mathematics)

Grade 5 – October 20th and 22nd (ELA Reading/Writing), October 28th (Mathematics)

Please feel free to contact school with any questions.

Yours in Education,

Scott G. Baker
